ABOUT ARTWORK
The Hazards is a breathtaking mountain range located within Freycinet National Park on Tasmania's eastern coast. Situated between Coles Bay and Wineglass Bay, they are said to have been named after local whaler Captain Richard Hazard, who had African-American heritage. The range consists of five notable peaks: Mayson (415 m), Amos (454 m), Dove (485 m), Baudin (413 m), and Parson (331 m). To me, these towering rocky peaks resembled an island of mountains at sea, unlike anything I had seen before. I was captivated by their intricate pink granite formations, sometimes tinged with red, and I painted them in fiery oranges and reds to capture their stunning beauty during sunset. These mountains are a unique and mesmerising natural landmark that I feel truly represents Tasmania.
