'Seduction Of Indulgence' is an original artwork created by the artist Kataraina Koroheke in 2018 Size: 87cm x 112cm ( including frame ) Medium: Acrylic on canvas This painting differs from my usual landscape style, as I wanted to explore a more imaginative approach to delight my inner child! Inspired by 90’s nostalgia and my childhood love for the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and my own sweet tooth. This painting explores the many substances people consume compulsively to alter their mental and emotional states. Whether it's money, candy, power, alcohol, or drugs, these substances highlight the pervasive desire to escape or enhance reality. From a young age, many of us are introduced to addictive substances like sugary treats and junk food, often as rewards or indulgent treats. This early association between consumption and positive emotions can foster a tendency for instant gratification, potentially leading to lifelong struggles with substance abuse for some people. However, most people in society occasionally overindulge in various forms - whether to celebrate, fill unmet needs, cope with stress, or simply out of sheer passion and love for what they enjoy. Inspired by Roald Dahl's beloved story "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory," I created the painting "Seduction of Indulgence." The character of the Candyman is influenced by Marilyn Manson, portraying a sinister version of Willy Wonka. The green "bong hat" is reminiscent of Marilyn Manson's "Willy Wonka" themed music video, "Dope Hat," which comments on the deceptive allure of drugs and those who peddle them. As someone who is visually impaired, creating this painting was an exceptional challenge that took me nearly two years, with breaks and periods of rest, completed in 2018. Capturing the complexities and struggles of navigating a world filled with alluring temptations and the constant battle to find balance and live a healthier, more fulfilling life.
