Reflecting on our first Wineglass Bay holiday from eight years ago, I fondly remember spotting a big brown wombat in the car park when we first rolled up - there were a few tourists standing around, taking photos of the wombat, and it seemed quite unbothered by it, which I found funny. Then we began our descent down the millions of stairs to the beach where we camped in the bushes alongside the large coastal rocks. In a humorous twist, we bumped into Greens Senator Bob Brown - there I was, standing around in my bikini top, having a quick chat with him! Anyway, I aimed to capture the wombat in my painting because it still stands out to me till this day, and I decided to add a baby wombat for extra charm—who doesn't love baby wombats? I also wanted to depict how vibrant the water's blue was when I swam in Wineglass Bay; it was a stunning turquoise on a sunny day, and incredibly refreshing! I strolled along the entire length of the beach, climbed the coastal rocks, sunbathed, and chatted with tourists, I have been back a few times since then and felt like it was time to paint this beautiful iconic bay.
